5. Read The Rules And Watch Some Tutorials Online
Before you go out and start hitting some golf balls go online and learn the rules of the game and see how professional swing the club. When learning a new sport it helps a lot when you know how the game is played. If you have decided to play this great game of golf you probably have already watch golf before but you could always watch more.
4. Bring All Types of Clubs With You
When people go out for the first time to hit balls at either the driving range or the course they usually do not bring all of their clubs. It is a mistake when they just bring a driver or irons to the range. There are 5 types of clubs which are drivers, fairway woods, irons, wedges and putters. BRING THEM ALL. Each club is different which means you might have different swings for different clubs. You won't be able to figure this out if you do not bring all the clubs. Just because you hit the driver great doesn't mean you will hit the irons the same way. That is why it is very important to swing all of your clubs.
3. Swing Easy
One of biggest mistakes I see from people who are starting out playing the game is they try to kill the ball. They swing as hard as they can and it does not work because they can not control their swing. People sometimes want to swing a golf club like a baseball bat. Do not do that. Take a deep breath and let the club do the work. When you start learning to swing the golf club it is more important to make clean contact with the ball than trying to kill the ball.
2. Keep Your Head Down When You Swing
Once you learn to swing easy the next thing you should know is to keep your head on the ball when your swinging the club. I see too many people that are just starting out, pick up their head before they hit the ball because they want to see where it goes. By picking up your head before you hit the ball you either hit the ball bad or completely miss the ball all together. Bring a friend with you when you start learning and have him watch the ball for you. If you keep picking up you head you are not going to look far for your ball. It will be in the same spot.
1. Have Fun
Lastly but most importantly have fun. This game is difficult when you are starting out. Most of you are not going to drive the ball 300 hundred yards or hit the pin with your iron shot at first. It is going to take time. Do not get frustrated, stay positive, your golf game will develop when you keep practicing. Once it does develop you will be having the time of your life.
